Session Overview
Vicsport is pleased to host our next Child Safe Sport Community of Practice with a presentation from the Social Services Regulator (SSR). Alice Cashen, Director of Child Safeguarding, will present on the important role SSR plays in promoting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people while also supporting organisations to understand and meet their responsibilities under the Child Safe Standards.
A role initially held by the Commission for Children and Young People, SSR now holds the position as of February 2026. This includes administering the Reportable Conduct Scheme with SSR now responsible for:
- Supporting and guiding organisations that receive allegations in order to promote fair, effective, timely and appropriate responses
- Independently overseeing, monitoring and, where appropriate, making recommendations to improve the responses of those organisations.
At this session, participants will:
- Gain a greater understanding of the role of the Social Services Regulator and current child safety priorities
- Strengthen knowledge of Child Safe Standards and their application within sport and recreation settings
- Explore practical approaches to creating and maintaining safe environments for participants
- Ask questions and discuss challenges relevant to their own organisation and sporting context.
