National Intrgeity Framework
The National Integrity Framework (the NIF) is a guide for how to deal with sport integrity matters. It ensures a safe, fair and healthy sporting environment for everyone.
About the NIF
Sport is vulnerable to many threats. The best way to protect everyone is to be prepared and proactive, however, not all sports are equipped to deal with complex issues and threats. That’s why the NIF exists – to help protect the integrity of Australian sport.
The NIF creates a consistent approach for sports to:
- protect their members
- keep their sport safe and fair
- deal with integrity threats and manage complaints
- hold people who do the wrong thing accountable.
The NIF is a suite of policies designed to target areas in most need of protection. These include the:
- Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy
- Competition Manipulation and Sports Wagering Policy
- Member Protection Policy
- Improper Use of Drugs and Medicine Policy
- Complaints, Disputes and Discipline Policy.
The NIF policies also outline what types of behaviour are unacceptable in sport. Unacceptable behaviours is called ‘Prohibited Conduct’.
Benefits of the NIF
Adopting the NIF policies means a sport has taken an important step in creating a safe and fair environment for its participants.
Adopting the NIF also means the sport will have access to SIA's independent complaints handling process for matters about:
- safeguarding children and young people
- discrimination based on a protected characteristic.
Sporting organisations signed up to the NIF
Sport integrity Australia (SIA) work with eligible organisations to help them adopt and embed the NIF in their sports. These primarily include the following types of organisations recognised by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC):
- National Sporting Organisations (NSOs)
- National Sporting Organisations for people with Disability (NSODs).
More than 90 sporting organisations have adopted the NIF.
