Sport is built on values, but our decisions aren’t always easy. Sport can be complicated, and we are often tested in the grey areas.
This Vicsport Integrity Forum, supported by Sport and Recreation Victoria, will bring together CEOs, SSO administrators, integrity officers and community leaders for an open, live conversation on the hard decisions shaping Victorian sport right now.
SESSION OVERVIEW
Moderated by ABC’s Paul Kennedy, this Q&A-style forum will explore the tensions that don’t have simple answers:
- Should junior sport be live streamed?
- When does performance culture in community and youth sport become unsafe?
- Who gets access - and who misses out?
- What role should sport play in wider social issues?
- Are we growing the game responsibly?
Our Panel will comprise a range of industry leaders taking on various integrity related matters:
- Wayne Holdsworth - as CEO of Frankston and District Basketball Association & Founder of SmackTalk, Wayne is a compelling speaker on some of the issues we are encountering in our lives, and provides a timely and important perspective on the challenges our community is contending with.
- Mary Woessner - as an Associate Professor at Victoria University, Mary will provide a robust evidence-based understanding of the state of play in issues relating to athlete welfare, safeguarding and integrity in sport
- Dr Paul Oliver - currently serving as Deputy CEO of Sport Integrity Australia, having worked in many leadership roles across sport, including various government roles, along with time at Paralympics Australia, and with ‘Play by the Rules’, Paul will provide us with a well-informed view of our industry from a high level perspective.
- Penny Forrest - as the Child Safety and Integrity Coordinator at Netball Victoria, Penny can provide an important perspective of the day-to-day challenges being encountered in our sector. Penny’s role has spanned complaints management, policy development and review, stakeholder engagement and the delivery of child safeguarding education plus governance and integrity guidance.
This panel discussion will cover leadership, good judgement and the difficult calls that define whether Victoria truly is the best place to be involved in sport - for everyone.
If you care about governance, culture, safety, fairness and the future of community sport, this forum is for you!
