Session Overview

Vicsport is pleased to offer our next Child Safe Sport Community of Practice, focusing on becoming trauma-informed with Blue Knot Foundation.

Blue Knot provides support and information for anyone who is affected by complex trauma. This full-day session will delve into ways to assist those who are survivors of trauma as well as how supporters can provide safe spaces to walk alongside those who are healing from the impacts of violence and abuse.

Too often in the sporting industry is the work of child safety, integrity and member protection left to one individual. This education session will assist in a whole-of-business approach to the empowerment of recovery and it is therefore encouraged that CEOs and managers attend.

At this session, participants will: 

• Develop understanding of the types, prevalence, neurobiology and impacts of trauma
• Use a trauma-informed lens to reframe challenging behaviours as adaptive responses to trauma
• Using case scenarios, apply the principles of trauma-informed practice in your role to develop strategies which enhance safety, minimise re-traumatisation and support recovery

Becoming Trauma-Informed

Organisations become trauma-informed by embedding an understanding of the prevalence, dynamics and impacts of trauma and the complex paths to healing and recovery.

Trauma-informed services are specifically designed to avoid retraumatizing those who seek assistance as well as to support staff working in service settings to stay healthy and well. These services seek “safety first” for all and commit to “doing no harm.”
