Back by popular demand....... The Immersion Sport Experience!
In partnership with VicHealth, Centre for Sport and Social Impact at La Trobe University and Sport Experience Design, Vicsport is coordinating this event around Doing Sport Differently (DSD) – six key principles that guide the design and delivery of sport-based programs which target less-active people through social and flexible sport.
The Immersive Sport Experience will feature new opportunities to get attendees thinking more deeply and broadly about how we deliver our sports. In attending this Experience and subsequent workshop, you will have the opportunity to:
- Be involved in an innovative experience that will help you think differently about your work and the way you faciliate sport
- Immerse yourself in a football (soccer) activity
- Learn directly from colleagues in the Victorian sports industry on how they have developed and implemented social sport programs using the Doing Sport Differently Principles
- Discuss ways to apply these insights to current or new programs in your sport
- Network and collaborate!
Presenters
- Dr. Erica Randle (she/her), Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Sport and Social Impact and
- Andrew O'Loughlin, Vicsport Manager Strategic Projects and Director of Sport Experience Design
Why an ‘immersive experience’?
We want to ensure our attendees walk away from this event having learnt something that they can apply - and we all know that we learn best by actually experiencing something.
We also know that we need actionable learnings, so after you participate in the activity, we will workshop ways that you can apply these learnings in your own organisations.
What is actually involved?
In the first part of this session, you will experience what it’s like to participate in a sport activity you may not have tried before and in the second half, you will take part in a workshop to unpack your learnings.
What is special about this experience is that we will immerse you in a typical sports experience, replicating the Victorian sporting landscape, but we will be embracing the good and the not so good in the spirit of understanding what needs to change - and why that is important.
Attendees will not know when they are getting a good or bad experience but we will all share our perspectives in the reflection workshop afterwards.
The activity will not involve a full workout but wearing active wear is highly recommended. There will be time to cool off and shower (if necessary) before the workshop.
