Child Safe Sport Community of Practice

Join us as we unpack insights and effective strategies to safeguard and empower child and young people in sport.

Session Overview

Vicsport is pleased to offer our next Child Safe Sport Community of Practice.

This opportunity is available to all staff from Victorian State Sport Associations, Regional Sport Assemblies and State Sport & Recreation Bodies.

Supported by the Victorian State Government, this session will see child safety experts and researchers, Dr Aurelie Pankowiak and Dr Mary Woessner from Victoria University (VU) share evidence and practical implications from their most recent research - Telling adults about it: children’s experience of disclosing interpersonal violence in community sport.

This current research found that less than half of Australian children and young people who experience violence in sport disclose their experience to an adult. With disclosure rates even lower when the abuse is by a coach or a parent.

At this session you will:

  • Gain insights into children’s experience of disclosing interpersonal violence in community sport and;
  • Learn practical tools and tips on how to address the evidence and practical implications discovered in this research

If you are a club / association volunteer please see our alternative child safeguarding resources HERE.
