Grants and Scholarships
Who can apply?
Women from all corners of the Australian sports community are welcome to apply. Women from culturally diverse backgrounds, Aboriginal women, rural and regional women and women with a disability are encouraged to apply.
Grants are distributed nationally within an identified sport(s) to ensure the recipients have a pathway within their organisation.
Online Applications for the 2009/10 grants are now open. Applications will close 11th May 2009.
Applicants will be advised of the success or otherwise of their application in June 2009.
Examples of successful recipients of the grants:
- Hayley, a CEO of a sporting organisation, used funding to attend an executive sport management program. ‘The six day intensive residential programme focused on providing senior executives with the most recent sport management knowledge and skills which enhance our leadership capabilities, made our communication more effective and advanced and refined our negotiation and marketing skills.’
- Katrina used the grant to complete a Level 2 Coaching Certificate for Basketball, this progressed her skills to coaching at the National Schools Championships. 'The course itself was of high quality. The opportunity to network with other coaches and be exposed to alternative methods and view points was invaluable to my development as a coach.’
- The Lakemba Sports and Recreation Club in Sydney received a grant to go towards training 60 women in a soccer coaching course. Significantly, all of the women are from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds where sport is not a traditional pathway for women.
- The Garnduwa Amboorny Wirnan Aboriginal Corporation received a grant to conduct introductory basketball officiating courses throughout the East Kimberley region in Western Australia. The aim is to have 100 women graduate through the course.
